Gallery in the Grove

With  a dedicated  Board of Managers, a membership of hardworking individuals and the support  of the community, Gallery in the Grove strives to move forward into the future with excellence.

Nestled among a grove of towering trees in Wildwood Park is the historic and stately Faethorne House built in 1875.

In 1980, a small group of people interested in establishing an art gallery were given permission to use part of the property and it became Gallery in the Grove on the upper floor of the building. The Bright's Grove Library occupies the lower floor.  Gallery in the Grove is a non-profit organization operated solely by volunteers.

Gallery in the Grove is pleased to present our
February Exhibit

Textured Ambience: Landscapes by Devon McCallum
Nature Infused: Bright's Grove Inspired Paintings by Martin Maxwell Renaud

Exhibit February 5th to 25th, 2012
Opening Reception Sunday, February 5th - 2 pm to 4 pm

Devon McCallum:

Devon is a landscape painter from Petrolia, Ontario. Devon is a recent graduate from the University of Windsor with a BFA-visual arts and has studied landscape painting at the Halliburton School of the Arts.

Devon's landscape paintings are created with a textural application of paint. Her style of painting has been influenced by the Impressionists, the Group of Seven, and contemporary landscape painters, like Kim Dorland.

Artist Statement:
Have you as a child imagined discovering secret places locked away in time and space? Literary critic George Bernard Shaw once said, "You see things; and you say, 'Why?' But I dream things that never were; and say, 'Why not?"    Imagination is about learning to visualize the surrounding physical environment in diverse ways. The viewer becomes part of a new world on the canvas, by exploring different textures, pastel colours, and atmospheric perspectives. Therefore, texture builds a dream-like environment, one layer at a time.

Martin Maxwell Renaud:

Martin is a young artist from Bright’s Grove, Ontario. His artistic inspiration derives from his ever expanding love for nature and an early childhood passion for illustrating and cartooning.

Martin started his career as an artist by spending five years creating his graphic novel trilogy “Half Dead”. He worked on the books one page at a time as a solo project, and each 8.5” x 5.5” panel is an individual piece of art inked by hand on watercolour paper. Martin focuses on a wide variety of media and styles to create paintings from scenes around him. He has always been fascinated by the organic lines of nature, especially trees. Martin has combined his skills to incorporate buildings into the artwork. The latest direction is miniature property portraits where he paints gardens, houses, and landscapes with ink and watercolour in a miniature format.

Much of Martin’s work can be seen in Sarnia cafes, restaurants, and bookstores. He has done painting projects for Lambton College, One Tomato Project, and commissioned corporate gifts. Martin believes that art is a personal experience that should grow and change with the artist. He has been taught the basic elements and principles of art though N.C.I.V.S in Sarnia but the majority of his style and skill has come from life-long practice. Martin has spent countless hours working on many paintings, and learns volumes from each work.

"Each work inspires the next in an exploration of the lines and colours of nature"
